Minimally Invasive Knee Replacement

New types of prostheses:

Ongoing research into materials, instruments and surgical access routes in recent years has led to considerable progress, reducing surgical trauma caused in fitting prostheses and the consequential post-surgery recovery time for the patient.

One example of this new minimally invasive approach is the unicompartmental implant designed to replace only half of the femorotibial articulation (internal or external). These are also called partial prostheses. Where correct conditions make it possible, these implants have the advantage of completely respecting the anatomy of the patient, permitting quicker and complete functional recovery.
